Shenandoah Audubon Event!

An Evening Birding Walk with Dr. David Carr, Director of Blandy

Thursday, June 4 from 7–8:30pm. Free and open to the public.

Meet at the flagpole kiosk adjacent to the parking lot at the Blandy Experimental Farm, State Arboretum of Virginia,

400 Blandy Farm Lane, Boyce, VA 22620
Join us for a casual evening birding walk to observe nesting bird species in a variety of habitats found at Blandy Experimental Farm.

The walk will culminate at the Purple Martin colony to view these lively birds. Bring binoculars, a camera, water, and wear shoes for uneven ground.

Celebrate National Trails Day at Museum of the Shenandoah Valley

Saturday, June 6 from 9–Noon.

Free and open to the public, however the guided bird walks require registration (see below)

Plant a tree, learn about birdwatching, join a yoga session, and explore hands-on nature activities along the Trails. Visit a volunteer fair – part of Trails Day – featuring 20+ local non-profits sharing ways to get involved.

Walk the Trails with a Bird Expert • 10:00–Noon: Join life-long birding enthusiast and naturalist Scott Kenney from the Northern Shenandoah Valley Audubon Society for walk through the Trails to see the many different types of birds that live and travel throughout the MSV.  Learn about the birds that live in our community and what we can do to help them thrive. Kids will learn a “superpower” to attract birds and how to use it responsibly. The walk will end at the Silo where families are invited to make bird feeders. Walks will take place every 30 minutes from 10 a.m.–noon; registration is required.

Appalachian Trail Conservancy Bird Walk in Harpers Ferry

Explore, Observe, Enjoy Nature with Mark Bruns, NSVAS Program Chair

Monday, June 8 at 8:00am. Free. Registration requested but not required. Call 304-535-6331 or visit the ATC website.

Meet at the ATC Harpers Ferry Visitor Center, 799 Washington Street, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425. Bring binoculars, a field guide or notebook, water bottle and light snacks. Wear comfortable outdoor clothing.

Birds, Books and Fun: June Smalls

Children’s Book launch at Museum of the Shenandoah Valley 

Saturday, June 13 from 11:00am–4:00pm. Free and open to the public.

Celebrate birds and books! Children’s author June Smalls will be at the MSV with her newly published interactive book Hear Them Sing: Songs and Calls from North American Birds. Enjoy live readings at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., book signings, and special bird-themed activities. Using the book’s soundboard, kids can learn the whistles, chirps, and coos of 14 North American birds. Experts from the Northern Shenandoah Audubon Society will be at the event to share fun bird facts and introduce children to the joys of birdwatching. With more than 10 published children’s books, Smalls’ books combine fun and learning with animal and nature themes. A curated selection of her books will be available for purchase.
